Discarded

Discarded is a series of unique artist’s books, all constructed from recycled books.  The books used for the project have all been found in trash bins or $1 piles.  In reinventing or reconstructing the books, the original pages are cut out of the binding, and the boards and spines are then used again, though the pages replaced with my own photographs.

    Brian,
I was randomly looking on here again, I have been trying to update my blog while being here in Scotland and I like this idea of using old books. Since being over here I learned so much about the importance of reseaching artists, and from that came an enjoyment of books from the library-the smell, residues left from previous borrowers.
I went to a photo festival on Thursday-Saturday and some of the work that was there was just amazing.

Ah, new laptop does what it wants, and I hit something that made that comment done before I was done writing. There is a place here called Relics that has tons of old books, antiques, pictures- it is kind of a dodgy area but I bought three pictures that have original writing on the back from the photographer. But I just wanted to say Hi, let you know I am learning a lot-our current project is we are shooting with 4X5 large format, and the subject is nudes, then we have to print in either cyanotype or Van Dyke. I can post the results up next week after I get it done. Hope things are good, and not too crazy.
